What is a soffit?
Soffits operate similar to fascia boards. Although, they are installed at a 90 degree angle to the wall instead of parallel. They are also installed underneath the fascia board as a way to fill the gap in-between the fascia and the wall.
What is the function of a soffit?
Soffits are a key factor and help smooth the finish on the property. They hide the ends of rafters and block gaps between roofs and walls. This helps to improve ventilation alongside preventing water and animals entering the roof space.
What materials are used to make a soffit?
Similarly to fascias, soffits are also available in wood and uPVC, but also come in a number of other common types of material.
Steel soffits
Steel soffits are very durable. They’re durable, available in different colours and can withstand various weather. They can also be cut to fit specific measurements to save you time during installation.
Fibre cement soffits
These types of soffits are very popular. They also have durability, as well as being; a lighter weight, also available in different colours, affordable and very waterproof.
Aluminium soffits
This material is very durable. There is not a lot of maintenance required, no complicated installation and because of its durability you can rely on it not to crack or chip.
Some common issues with fascias and soffits
